FAQ
How long does it take to appraise a watch?
How long does it take to appraise a watch depends mainly on the piece's rarity and the purpose of the report, but most single-watch appraisals move quickly while complex collections take longer.
A straightforward modern luxury or sports watch, such as a common Rolex or Omega reference with clear documentation, typically takes the least time to research and value because comparable market data is easy to establish. Vintage, rare, or provenance-dependent pieces take longer, since our appraisers need to verify authenticity, research auction and market comparables, and assess condition and originality in detail. Estate collections with multiple watches naturally add time beyond a single piece, simply because each item requires its own research and write-up.
Turnaround also depends on the report's intended use. A watch appraisal prepared for insurance coverage or a quick market-value check can often move faster than one prepared for estate settlement, Form 706 filings, or IRS Form 8283 charitable donation documentation, since those reports require more rigorous supporting analysis to hold up under IRS or probate scrutiny. Rather than quote a fixed number of days, we confirm your specific timeline during scoping, once we know the number of pieces, the watch types involved, and your intended use.
If you have a deadline such as a probate filing date, a tax filing, or an insurance requirement, let us know upfront. We'll confirm whether that timeline is workable and discuss expedited service if you need your report sooner. You can request an appraisal to get the process started and receive a fixed fee before any work begins.
